 Well Folks, we’re almost ready to get rolling with our musical activities now- after spending the last couple of weeks on “housekeeping “! Thank you for your patience.

 We now have had a good chance to review the condition of our instruments and are addressing their needs.

 And with rental forms in, we have an updated record of where all our instrument are!

  1. WEDNESDAY BEGINNERS: Your class time is now moved 30 min later, as of this week Sept.25th It will start at 5:30 till 6.

PLEASE arrive at 5:15 to prepare for 5:30 class start!

  • ALL students will be receiving their class seating assignments, and correct instrument sizes.

  • BEGINNERS will be sized and assigned their new instruments

  • INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED STUDENTS will be selecting their PRIVATE LESSON times

  • INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED STUDENTS will be receiving their new music for this term

  • ALL students will receive the MATT absence policy, to be carefully read and followed

  • ALL students will receive the Annual MATT Calendar- your manual & handbook for the entire MATT year-till June!

BUT IF NOT , please see below- a new system is in place for rentals and registration!. Before we can get going you MUST drop your MATT rented instrument for repair and maintenance check to be done THIS WEEKEND!

ALSO: please bring all folders and class music used last year for return and sorting in class #1

After school today drop into the Lunch room offiice to get the “red tape “ out of the way! Otherwise you may find it more difficult to join in fully next week

AUGUST BLOG POSTING: LOTS OF INFORMATION FOR YOU!!

Dear MATT families,

We still have a whole month to go, but in order to keep you well-informed , here are some very important notices you will need well ahead of time before we re-start in September. Enjoy the next month of vacation and family time!

  • Congrats to all Students and Parents who participated the Towers BBQ- the wind almost got the better of us, we we DID succeed in playing a couple of short concerts!

  • SEPTEMBER 4 AND 5 INSTRUMENT RETURN FOR ALL MATT RENTAL INSTRUMENTS

    After school Wed. and Thurs.3:30 - 7 pm Sept 4 and 5 please bring your MATT instrument to the lunch room. It will be inspected for possible repairs and returned Sept 10 in class after rental forms are in and fees are paid,

    MATT office contact resumes August 19th. Yogita will pick up your call between 10 and 12, and return messages which arrive at other times: 905 497 2220

    REGISTRATION BEGINS August 19th. Applications are in the website e and can be email ed to Yogita. Fees and rental forms /payments to be collected by Sept 10th.

    Classes resume Sept 10th, 11th and 12th. Times and dates of classes after Aug .19. Most classes will be held at same times as last year. Beginners classes will be also offered Wednesday 5pm and Thursday 5 :30 pm

  • ADVANCED AUDITIONS Sept 4 and 5. An audition schedule will be available on this BLOG Aug 20th All Advanced and Intermediate students planning to audition should call Yogita and select your preferred time.

    NB; PLEASE bring an extra copy of your solo for the audition teachers

    Violins need to obtain the solo pieces from Amir. Please contact him if you do not have them. Viola, cello and bass pieces are found in Suzuki book 2

    Class Placement Auditions for September 2019

    WHO? WHEN? WHERE?

    Auditions for all advanced students and interested Intermediates for an Advanced Class place, will be held in September of 2019.

    Schedules to sign up for auditions will be e mailed out in August, 2019.

    WHAT? Audition requirements for Intermediate to Advanced classes for each respective instrument is provided below.

    Audition requirements must be reviewed and practiced with your private teacher. Summer lessons are recommended to ensure a successful audition for advanced class placement

    VIOLIN

    1.     Solo Piece (Suz Book 2 level)

    2.     RCM  2 sight-reading passage in D or G major 

    3.     D Major Scale :2 octaves or G Major Scale: 2 octaves

POST CONCERT KUDOS!!

A HUGE “ CONGRATULATIONS!” to our MATT students for their EXCELLENT PERFORMANCES tonight! I think you all played your best ever-that’s always the goal- you reached it!! You made my heart sing!

And THANK YOU to you all, for the amazing gift of gorgeous flowers ( even some favorite purple ones - along with the beautiful white roses), dinner vouchers and gift card! What a generous and wonderful surprise ! We will certainly enjoy our lovely dinner at a favorite restaurant, and will plan to use the gift card to attend a special performance this summer. Over the top wonderful!

To Yogita and Jessica for making sure all went well afterwards, and to all the parents who provided a wonderful feast for our audience, HUGE HUGS! Your bounty of lovely treats will be shared also Tuesday 4 to 6 -at the Awards Party- I hope we will be able to enjoy some swimming and warm weather, but rain or shine, warm or cold- it’s ON!!

ADVANCED CLASS NEWS : WE ARE PLAYING at the OPENING of the BRAMPTON FARMER”S MARKET 9AM TO 9:30 Saturday June 15th.

We will arrive at 8:30 am to tune and set up. Meet in front of the stage. Wear MATT t-shirts and casual attire (sunblock, hats) We will be performing on stage . Bring ALL music including Canon, and Deep River. We will play everything from June 7th concert plus these two pieces and hope it is about 30 min. long! I might bring Beethoven’s 9th and other simple stuff in case we need it! Two ensembles can play- the Merisanu’s with Matthew Daley and the Concert quartet

FINAL DIRECTIONS for FRIDAY CONCERT:

  1. On arrival students set up music stands in concert area, then go to tune in Harmony Hall

  2. .6:45 ALL take your correct seat in FINALE orchestra seating - for final check of chairs and stands needed.

  3. 6:55 You will be directed to start position/audience seating.

FRIDAY JUNE 7th FINALE SHOWCASE CONCERT 7 to 8:30 pm :Complete performance by all students and staff, for your family and guests, and residents of HCH. Entrance is free, but a donation hat is circulated.

REFRESHMENTS: All parents are asked to contribute to our refreshment table. We feed the students, parents and audience light finger foods of all kinds, and cold beverages. Please let Yogita know what you will be will be bringing.

The final Tuesday of MATT is a celebration for all students: the presentation of certificates and special awards, swimming, and playing. . A life guard will be hired, but each parent is required to supervise your child. It’s a chance to just have fun and celebrate the 2018/19 MATT Year! The location is Ms. Andrea’a home 5 min from the Towers- address to follow.

PLAY A THON CANVASSING BEGINS

PARENT NOTES

  1. Saturday May 25th PLAY A THON WHAT IS IT? All students are receiving their Pledge sheets this week, for the 3rd Annual MATT fundraising campaign. Please read through all details on the pledge sheet for information about collecting and handing in funds raised.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Like any other marathon (running, biking walking etc.), we canvass family members, teachers and close family friends to support us in our efforts by donating to our Play a thon. All proceeds go to the MATT program to pay for instruments, bows, sheet music and other program needs

WHO PLAYS ? ALL students are involved with the May 25 PLAY A THON performances: 4 hours of continuous MUSIC. Be sure to confirm your attendance with Yogita.

WHO HELPS? Parents are needed for each shift to help students care for /store equipment and to hand out the snack after performance. Please see Yogita if you’d like to help

PLAY A THON SCHEDULE

ALL Beginners: arrive 10:45: Play 11 to 11:45.

Tuesday Intermediates.: arrive 11:30 Play 11:45 to 12:30

Thursday Intermediates : arrive 12:15 Play 12:30 to 1:15 pm

Ensembles / Solos: Arrive 1:pm. Play 1:15 to 1 :45 pm

Advanced: arrive 1:30 pm Play 1:45 to 3 pm

2. PARENT INTERVIEWS: Artistic Director Ms. Andrea meets with MATT parents once per year one- on- one to discuss their MATT comments and suggestions, students progress etc.. Please sign up for your 15 min. interview soon to lock in your best time. Bring your ideas to share. PURPOSE of Interviews:

  • discuss students’ progress

  • view progress reports from private teachers

  • discuss your thoughts and suggestions for program

Once again I’d like to thank the Towers and Oxford Management, Students, Teachers, Board members and Parents for their great “show “ -last week’s sponsor appreciation event. The months of planning, the music, the decor, the supervision, the donations for the delicious food, treats for students (Thank you Daljeet! ) and the great work by the caterer, Luther. all culminated in a very successful and enjoyable event. 1. LAST ROSE /ROSEBUD CONCERT this year. “ Spring Awakening” Apr. 27 performance Tickets are available this week in class..

2. FULL ATTENDANCE for ALL STUDENTS. Music performance is TEAM WORK ! Please note that from now till the end of the MATT year,students are required to attend ALL classes Theory and Private lessons. Without sufficient advance notice, this being for illness only students may not be able to perform at the June Concert.

Parents of MATT students are asked to help their children find sponsors towards $100 per family, to support the MATT program. The event takes place Saturday May 25 at Southside Court, Shoppers World Mall. Enter at the Steeles Ave entrance beside “the Kitchen Store”.

How does it work ?. Our sponsors are contributing their donation to support he students who will play for a total of FOUR hours that day, from 1 to 3 pm. (as they would sponsor a marathon run.) A $50 gift card prize will be awarded for the highest family contribution !

Each class will perform part of the time, as seen in the schedule below playing their class music which is being prepared for the final June 7th Finale Showcase Concert .

They will bring stands music etc as they would to class and dress in MATT t-shirts.

ALL Beginners: arrive 10:45: Play 11 to 11:45.

YEAR END EVENTS PLANNING

May 21 : ENSEMBLES: FINAL REHEARSAL for “Week 1 ensemble” Tues May 21st All ensembles play at the PLAY A THON as an audition for the June Concert opportunity..

2. INTERVIEWS: LOCATION CHANGE ALL parent interviews will be held in the 75 Charolais Office , at entrance to the Towers parking lot opposite Bldg #95 The office is located at the top of the ramp. There is some visitor parking up there . Please wait in the hall till your app’t time.

3. SPECIAL PIRATES REHEARSAL for ALL Students: Tuesday May 28 6 to 6:30 pm. Please arrive at 5:45 to unpack and be ready to sit in.

4.. JULY 1 INVITATION- Not enough students were available to play in any class, so we will decline the offer..Thank you to all those who responded, especially those who responded YES! Maybe next time!

5. BINGO! Can you help? If you might be able to attend a 1 hour training session and serve at a 3 hour Bingo session once or twice a year. let us know. Monday to Thursday 3:15 to 6:15 ror SAat Sun 12:15 to 2:15.am We will receive the exact dates in a week or two.

MAY 25 PLAY A THON SCHEDULE

All students are required at attend their class Play a thon Performance- see schedule below. One hour for each class participation - rehearsal for the June 7 Showcase Concert

ALL Beginners: arrive 10:45: Play 11 to 11:45.

Tuesday Intermediates.: arrive 11:30 Play 11:45 to 12:30

Thursday Intermediates : arrive 12:15 Play 12:30 to 1:15 pm

Ensembles / Solos: Arrive 1:pm. Play 1:15 to 1 :45 pm

Advanced: arrive 1:30 pm Play 1:45 to 3 pm

Bring class music.and stand with your name on it.. Wear MATT t shirt with casual clothing

Parents are needed during your own child’s class time only, to help students care for /store cases etc and to hand out the snack after performance. Please see Yogita if you can help . thank you!.

WHERE ? at HOLLAND CHRISTIAN HOMES Heritage Hall, 7900 Mc Laughlin Rd . just south of Steeles on west side. Enter at MAIN ENTRANCE sign, beside DUCA bank Arrive early to find parking.

WHEN ? STUDENT ARRIVAL TIMES: Beginners- 4 :15 pm, Intermediates 5pm, Advanced 5:30 for Pirates rehearsal with all other students before other pieces.

WHAT TO BRING ? Bring all stands with name on them, music for concert and instruments.

SET UP help needed please :We have many chairs to bring in and many others to move - parent help is needed from 3:30 to 4:15 pm. If you can come and help , please let Yogita know.

FRIDAY JUNE 7TH FINALE SHOWCASE CONCERT 7 to 8:30 pm :Complete performance by all students and staff, for your family and guests, and residents of HCH. Entrance is free, but a donation hat is circulated.

REFRESHMENTS: All parents are asked to contribute to our refreshment table. We feed the students, parents and audience light finger foods of all kinds, and cold beverages. PLease let Yogita know what you will be will be bringing.

YEAR END AWARDS PARTY

The final Tuesday of MATT is a celebration for all students: the presentation of certificates and special awards, swimming, and playing. . A life guard will be hired, but each parent is required to supervise your child. It’s a chance to just have fun and celebrate the 2018/19 MATT Year! The location is MS Andrea’a home 5 min from the Towers- address to follow.
