MATT Parents Home Practice Tips

Tips for success:

  • Set a regular time to practice most weekdays

  • Let your child choose from 2 or 3 time suggestions

  • Stick with a routine - it becomes a habit and leads to progress

  • Parents should practice with their child, reminding them of what took place in class

  • Check the blog for the weekly homework goals

  • Focus the effort: Write specific homework goals on a chart

    • Practice each goal on the chart and check off when done

    • Repeat each item a number of times for muscle learning of skills/hand-eye coordination

    • Be fair: if you say 5 times, or 15 min. stick to the promise

  • Reading music: Use a pencil to point at each note. This focuses their attention and helps both of you to learn

  • Reward each small step with comments that relate to the goal (good bow grip/nice sound/straight bow/correct reading of notes/full bow, etc.)

  • Verbally Express YOUR JOY in YOUR CHILD'S MUSIC: "I like that song", "I am proud of you" "This is such a special time together" "You are making great progress on your reading"

September 19 & September 20

There are several tips and advice that can help maintain instruments in good condition. Here are some recommendations:

  • Proper storage: Ensure that the instrument is stored in a safe and suitable environment.

  • Keep it away from extreme temperatures, humidity, direct sunlight, and any potential hazards that could cause damage.

Intermediate 1A

  • Let it go music

    • Please practice the first 2 lines

  • Next week will play more lines with dynamics

The schedule for this year's class is provided below. Within the registration form, you'll find a section dedicated to specifying your preferred timeslot. To determine which level your child will be entering in September kindly refer to the certificate your child received in June. A Certificate of Achievement signifies that that student will be progressing to the next level (Beginner -> Intermediate -> Toscanini -> Advanced). On the other hand, a Certificate of Attendance indicates that the student will continue at the same level as last year. All first-year Advanced students are required to audition again this year for the Advanced class.
